Man in black on the white project November 21, 2010

My friend Goran Škofić has new crazy stuff for you, again. The human figure is shown as a sign on the white surface without objects, set on the ground with no support, within a rectangular cut of the frame in the abstract field of the world of image. It just looks simple!

Hybrid composite image makes it possible to create a world that is perfectly convincing and real, but at the same time incredible, full of scary visions, phantasms, nightmares, fears, and anxieties, with contours that are precise and inexplicable. — Branka Benčić, text from catalogue

This is totally his style, loop videos connected through the exhibition set-up. Get the full experience of Goran’s set-up in MK Gallery in Zagreb (Croatia), watch the video below!

Haven’t seen you in a while. How’s it going my friend?

Exploring time and place October 17, 2010

I was writing about Joshua Stocker before and you probably know he’s a graphic designer based in UK. This post is about his new film. He sent me some more information behind the scenes.

I wanted to explore the relationship between time, location, and memories, and felt this open briefed university project entitled “I Am Here” would be the perfect time to do so. I called up my Dad and my Brother, and the next day in the early morning sunlight we set off to Wales.

Growing up, Joshua’s family would spend every summer in Wales, and he remembers vividly the cliff edge roads, the huge magical forests, and the wondrous sound of a waterfall. Even the Lake spurred all sorts of thoughts in Joshua’s head as his dad explained how the reservoir was in fact once a town. And that in the mid 1800′s they built a damn and flooded it. So there is in fact a whole village built underneath that water.

With such vivid memories, but having not been back there for 10 years made the day an emotional experience. There are only a few times in life where you can re-visit somewhere so significant to you, and share that with the people you love.

Joshua put the film together a few days later. He knew the sort of music he wanted to use, and ended up picking a piece by Max Richter. Joshua managed to relay some of the emotions he felt on that day, and the relationship he share with his brother and father, which is in fact what this piece is really about.

Hello cold weather, Clemens has something cool for you September 14, 2010

After Flickr groups, here is the new way for submitting your creative work, via Vimeo group! Author of the first featured video comes from Austria, 26 years old Clemens Wirth. Hello Clemens how’s doin’? :P

Clemens is studying multimedia art at the FH-Salzburg in Austria since two years, but he makes movies for five years now. Currently he is doing an intern in a video production company. Clemens works with the 5d mark II and Adobe’s CS4. Late autum garden was filmed with the 5dmII equipped with the 100mm lens. It was a hobby project to push his skills in after effects, inspired by the offf 2009 titles.

Thank you Clemens for this amazing video!

By-the-way note: It’s officially… I’m moving to Novi Sad in October. Going to uni, media management. Upcoming some cool changes at DwA, stay tuned!

Idea’s missing? CL!CK LEGO! May 25, 2010

Find your inspiration! / Copyright LEGO CL!CK

In the lack of inspiration, just look inside, like in this short film by LEGO. Please be careful with your ideas and write them down right away, because they are very awkward in many cases when you forgot what you thought a few seconds before.

Postscript: I’m doing my best to be with you here and I hope you understand my graduating tasks and preparing for the academy. After many awake nights my high school graduating project is almost done, next is preparing for the Art Academy. Stay tuned here and wish me luck. Thank you all for supporting me. Love you!

Hibi no Neiro by SOUR April 1, 2010

I didn’t understand anything what they sang, but they were so awesome and I decided to share their super creative idea. This music video was shot for Sour’s ‘Hibi no Neiro’ (Tone of everyday) from their first mini album ‘Water Flavor EP’. The cast were selected from the actual Sour fan base, from many countries around the world. Each person and scene was filmed purely via webcam.

SOUR forms by hoshijima (gut guitar/voice) of French birth British growth, Sohey (bass/upright bass) of Ginza birth Ginza growth, and TAKAHASHIKEN (drums/toys) of German birth Spanish growth. They are a 3 piece band that plays organic, urban, tight, mellow, sharpend, and totally comfortable sound.

Good work guys, you really made me think how you recorded some parts.

Unusual animals February 18, 2010

Exploring is such a fun, I’ve found this animation on Vimeo. It’s about crazy animated animals, kinda animals, who are moving all around the real space. Many different bright colors increases the whole adventure. Music is following every move, and that’s what I specially like in this animation.

Director/Animator/Characterdesign: Kristofer Ström * AE/Filmmaestro/Cutting: Erik Buchholtz * Producers: Bart Yates, Nicholas Wakeham * Studio: varelsen / ljudbilden * Music: Minilogue

If you missed, read previous article about First creative month on DwA. Be good and creative, see you tomorrow.

BESPLA hugs, free hugs. February 3, 2010

After some immobile arts, photos and pixel art, time is for the movement. Introducing “BESPLA”, English named “For Free”. I talked with the author, a 31 years old Marko Butraković cameraman, who explained me the details.

BESPLA is very important for me since it was very first thing I’ve shot on my 5D MK2′s and at that moment no one actually belived that such a tiny thing could get in the mainstream production in less than a year time.

5D‘s in America are the mainstream now, they are the next new thing, a new revolution, there are thousands of phrases that are explaining what’s happening in production studios right now! Marko said, we in Croatia are sleeping, as always and no one takes DSLRs seriously. Sadly! Eventually they will penetrate the market and make their mark.

In the mean time I will keep shooting with primes, I’ll keep wrestling with extreme shallow DOFs and yes, I will continue to manual set Kelvins and to fill TB’s with tons of PRORES422 files.

Now watch, you will not regret it. Enjoy, and do not stop giving free hugs, people needs you.

More info about the making crew

Cast: Ivona Kundert and Aljoša Čepl; Accidental appearance: Elvir Tabaković, Rebeka Jozić, Dražen Stojčić, Tanja Grganović and Dogo Argentino; DSLR 1: Marko Butraković; DSLR 2: Elvir Tabaković; Lighting assistants: Boris Ocić and Renato Stupar; Editing: Marko Butraković; Directors: Marko Butraković and Elvir Tabaković.

Making of BESPLA

Here you can see the behind scenes, guys had trouble with the Police at the first scene. If you don’t understand, police officer told them to turn off the light. Please leave them alone, they are just doing something creative.

Marko also made several TVC’s, music videos, industrial movies, educational movies and equiped his studio with additional gadgets like steadicam, dolly system, different light sets, sound recording kits and more. You can find his work at butrakovic.com (his Vimeo profile). Also visit the official BESPLA web site, bespla.org.

Thank you Marko, I’m looking forward to share your future works.

Finding Myself, by Joshua Stocker January 22, 2010

Can you imagine stop-motion sequence of 7000 separate photos? What? Oh, yes Joshua Stocker did it. He’s 19 (almost 20) years old creative artist based in London. Art became his main passion about 4 years ago. He started out with pens and pencils, and than progressed into digital art, then design, photography, and last year film and animation. He’s doing everything, right? He recently finished an Art Foundation in Stourbridge before moving to London. Joshua is currently studying Graphic Design Communication at The University of the Arts, London.

I found moving image to be far more inspiring and challenging than anything I had previously tried. A medium which could bring together everything I love.

“Finding Myself” was the first film he made. They were asked to create an illustration about something they were each looking for in life. For Joshua it was looking for his purpose, his place in the world, and the many metaphors you can take from that. The illustration is the piece of paper he writes on in the film. He didn’t have a video camera, but he experimented with his SLR to see whether creating a film from photographs would be possible. After storyboarding, the majority of the footage was shot in one day, with a few other pieces shot the following day.

Enjoy and please leave a comment below.
